Achievements

Since its inception in 2007 the Edinburgh programme continues to grow and move from strength-to-strength:

Summer 2007: 1st phase pilot with Pathways to Professions and independent schools enabling 20 students to take part in a week-long programme at the Western General

Summer 2008: 2nd phase pilot opened up structured application route and worked in close collaboration with the Pathways to Professions team to place 40 students

Summer 2009: Implementation of two successive work experience weeks allowed a total of 106 students to take part in a comprehensive programme which involved more than 50 clinicians across 5 hospitals

Summer 2010: Implementation of three successive work experience weeks allowed a total of 181 students to undertake a week of work experience

Summer 2011: Two successive weeks of work experience allowed 98 students to participate in Medic Insight Week Edinburgh and introduction of Medic Insight Day event which catered for over 60 S4 students

Summer 2012: Two successive weeks of work experience allowed 119 students to participate in Medic Insight Week Edinburgh. Continuation of Medic Insight Day event with more than 65 students taking part

Summer 2013: Two successive weeks of work experience allowed 88 students to participate in Medic Insight Week Edinburgh and Medic Insight Day event attracting over 80 students

Summer 2014: Two successive weeks of work experience allowed 97 students to participate in Medic Insight Week Edinburgh. Medic Insight Day event spaces increased to 120 students with a 40-minute role-play circuit added to introduce students to the style of assessment used in interviews and practical exams at medical school

Summer 2015: Two successive weeks allowed 96 students to participate in our Week event with a further 120 students for our Day event. An OSCE workshop pilot was successful and will be introduced for all pupils in 2016. Additional talks on UKCAT and personal statement allowed pupils to gain more insight into the application process in addition to the other aspects of our programme. Expansion of Medic Insight to Glasgow, with a week programme opening in summer 2016.

 

Since its creation in 2010 the Dundee programme has grown rapidly:

Summer 2011: Two successive weeks of work experience allowed 43 students to participate in Medic Insight Week Dundee and involved over 30 clinicians in NHS Tayside

Summer 2012: Three successive weeks of work experience allowed 84 students to participate in Medic Insight Week Dundee

Summer 2013: Three successive weeks of work experience allowed 78 students to participate in Medic Insight Week Dundee

Summer 2014: Three successive weeks of work experience allowed 89 students to participate in Medic Insight Week Dundee

 

Medic Insight Glasgow will run its first Week event in Summer 2016.
